News Sites & PODCASTS

firefighterclosecalls - listing of close calls and Line of Duty Deaths across the country. Very informative, allowing you to learn from other's mistakes and close calls.

EMSclosecalls - similar to above, but dedicated to EMS.

RochesterEMS - this website is for the Rochester , New York , community college, but it has a FREE continuing education section, available to anyone. This training is video based, which you can view while connected to the internet, or download and watch at your leisure. I have looked at one of the blocks, and they look well-done. When you get to the main site, just click on "Continuing Mobile Education."

Promednetwork - this is a single website with information about all of the EMS , Fire, and Emergency Response podcasts, blogs, and websites. It includes information about the following three podcasts, as well, but since I have listened to these three, I figured I would list them separately with some comments.

Mediccast - a podcast dedicated to EMS ; Provides lots of pertinent information, stories, news articles, and tips; It is hosted by a Maryland Paramedic; his FREE website is extremely informative, and has a subscription website with even more information; I've listened to this podcast for about a year now and really enjoy the information it provides.

Mitigationjournal - a podcast dedicated to all Emergency Responders; is more of a disaster preparedness podcast, but does often have useful EMS tips; has a good blog on the website with links to other information.

EMSgarage - a podcast with EMS related news, tips, educational information, etc; This podcast is fairly new and I have only listened to a few episodes, but seems to have a good start.

EMT's Prayer

As I perform my duties Lord Whatever be the call.

Help to guide and keep me safe From danger big and small.

I want to serve and do my best, No matter what the scene.

I pledge to keep my skills refined, My judgment quick and keen.

This calling to give of myself, Most do not understand.

But I stand ready all the time, To help my fellow man.

To have the chance to help a child, Restore his laugh with glee.

A word of thanks I may not hear, But knowing is enough for me.

The praise of men is fine for some But I feel truly blessed,

That you, Oh Lord have chosen me To serve in EMS.
